4 Modes Of Transport To Get You Across The Canadian Rockies

The Canadian Rockies are one of the most popular and breathtaking wilderness adventure destinations, providing an abundance of nature and breathtaking views. With serene lakes, glorious national parks, quaint mountain towns and, of course, the Rockies themselves, there is something new and exhilarating around every corner.

Rocky Mountaineer

Perhaps the most iconic way of navigating the Rocky Mountains is on board the Rocky Mountaineer, a luxury train that has been offering once-in-a-lifetime experiences for over 25 years now. As you glide past scenery that you otherwise would never be able to see, you can sit back and watch in awe. Ice Explorer

An Ice Explorer is like a specially-designed bus that has been adapted for glacier explorations. You will get to ride in one when you visit the Athabasca Glacier along the Icefields Parkway, close to Banff. This is the most visited glacier in North America and, with an Ice Explorer at your disposal, you will be able to travel onto it in the safest way possible. The thick tyres (or sometimes tank tracks) make easy work of the icy conditions and give you access to the stunning views all around.

Walking

As we mentioned above, this part of the world is home to some of the most beautiful natural environments in the world. And the best way to see these is often by using your own two feet. As well as tours that are dedicated to hiking in different areas, we also have options that include shorter periods of walking. You’ll trek through the Banff, Jasper and Yoho National Parks, uncovering sights such as Takakkaw Falls, Cavell Meadows and the Banff Upper Hot Springs. There’s even the chance to rent a canoe along the Bow River if you’re feet start to get tired.

Gondola

Far from the gondolas you find plying Venice’s canals, this mode of transport is more at home in the skies. The Banff Gondola is a cable car that will lift you to the top of Sulphur Mountain, at a height of 7,486 feet above sea level, in eight minutes. Along the way, you can enjoy 360-degree views of six different mountain ranges through the glass of your gondola. It’s not just a case of waiting to go back down again when you get to the top, either. There’s a Summitwalk that leads to a National History Site, an open-air observation deck, a restaurant, a gift shop and unrivalled views of Banff National Park to try and take in.
