September means different things to different people. For some, it’s time to go back to school. For others, it signals the return of darker nights and for a few, it presents the perfect time to jet off on holiday.
September is also the time when a lot of exciting events are happening around the world. Here are four that you may already have in your calendar or you may want to travel to see first-hand.
It’s one of life’s big ironies that Oktoberfest actually starts in September, but this lively event seems to grow in popularity every year. As Bavaria’s (and, arguably Germany’s) premier beer festival, it signals two weeks of dancing, eating, catching up with friends and, of course, drinking. The festival itself takes place in Munich on the Theresienwiese, but many cities around the world host their own versions at the same time. Proceedings are officially kicked-off by the mayor of Munich, who taps the first barrel. After that, the beer continues to flow until early October.
The Ryder Cup takes place every two years, with the venue alternating between golf courses in the USA and Europe. In 2018, the two teams will clash in France, at the Albatros Course in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. Dane Thomas Bjørn will lead the Europe team into battle, with Jim Furyk captaining the Americans – who are looking to win the tournament on European soil for the first time since 1993. This is one of the major events in the golfing calendar and definitely a bucket list trip for any fan.
Croatia’s festival scene has been on the up for a few years now and Outlook is certainly at the forefront. It takes place in the historic city of Pula, with 10 different stages dotted around this breathtaking setting where artists will be playing dance, techno, hip-hop, reggae and more. The festival makes great use of this beachside location, with parties taking place on sand, cement and at sea. So, even if the music doesn’t tickle your fancy, can you really miss the chance to let loose in a 2,000-year-old amphitheatre or the moat of a 17th-century fortress?
Life Is Beautiful is the festival we all need in 2018. Taking over downtown Las Vegas a whole weekend, thousands of music artists, comedians, educational speakers and creative geniuses will help even more visitors celebrate the fantastic diversities of life. Positivity spreads to all who attend and it’s a chance to focus on what brings us together rather than what separates us. Confirmed performers for 2018 include The Weekend, Florence and the Machine, Arcade Fire and comedian Hannibal Buress (Griff from Daddy’s Home).
