What Makes A Cruise Ship Luxurious?

Have you got a special birthday or big anniversary coming up and would love to celebrate it in style? Why not book a luxury cruise with your friends and family and have a one-of-a-kind experience?

We’ve broken down the main features you’ll get to see first-hand when staying on board one of these awe-inspiring cruise ships.

Amazing Accommodation

One of the first features you’ll be stunned by when on a luxury cruise is the accommodation. In most cases, it’s made up entirely of suites, providing a lavish home from home in which you can relax. Regent Seven Seas’ Seven Seas Explorer has 375 suites, all with a private veranda and a comfortable king-sized bed. The spacious marble en-suites showcase his and hers sinks, baths and even showers, so there’s no waiting around to use the bathroom.

Oceania also has spectacular suites that stretch up to 2,000 square feet wide and offer 24-hour butler service. Your personal butler can book all of your dinner reservations, shore excursions and spa treatments, as well as bring you room service and much more. Inside, beautiful Ralph Lauren furnishings can be found in the bedroom, living and dining rooms, giving a strong sense of opulence.

Delicious Dining

One of the largest factors that separates a luxurious cruise from the rest is the immaculate dining room set up and exquisite cuisine. Seabourn’s The Grill restaurant features an impeccable menu designed by Michelin-starred chef, Thomas Keller, which includes lobster thermidor, lamb medallions and veal T-bone.

Another stunning dining venue is the Compass Room on board Seven Seas Explorer. This is the largest room on the ship and showcases 400 Versace place settings, adding to the sophistication of a menu that features Dover sole and Black Angus beef marinated in Bourbon sauce.

Cunard‘s speciality dining restaurant, The Verandah, (a must-visit) serves up a wide selection of delicious French dishes. It uses some of the highest quality ingredients, including prime cuts of meat and freshly sourced seafood that’ll make your mouth water just thinking about them.

Detailed Décor

When you first step onto any luxury cruise ship, you’ll be astounded by the interior design, whether it’s marvellous marble features or glistening chandeliers. Seven Seas Explorer tops the list with its 500 Czech Republic crystal and glass chandeliers that are spread out across the ship’s restaurants, bars and lobby. If you’re a lover of art then you’ll adore the 2,500 pieces dotted about the whole vessel, but keep your eyes peeled for the original Picasso.

Seabourn Encore also has many beautiful interiors envisaged by the renowned designer, Adam D. Tihany, including the popular multi-purpose space, Seabourn Square. If you’re a fan of his work or simply enjoy exquisite design, Seabourn Encore and Seabourn Ovation are the ships for you.

Spectacular Shore Excursions

If shore excursions are what you’re most interested in, the smaller size of most luxury cruise ships means they’re able to dock in more intimate ports and give you the opportunity to go on some exclusive excursions. Azamara Quest visits many charming destinations like Myanmar in South-East Asia, where you can stay one night in a hotel that sits over Lake Inle on stilts - sounds pretty unique to us.

Silversea also has many exotic itineraries including Kodiak Island in Alaska. When docked here, you’ll have the chance to kayak, fish and even look for some wild bears. However,if you wish to see more marine life during your stay, get your binoculars out when cruising past the Hubbard Glacier and see if you can spot any orcas and humpback whales passing by.
