Mexico

Walk in the footsteps of ancient cultures on a tour of Mexico. You may be travelling as part of a trip that also visits the ruins in Guatemala and Honduras, or your wanderings may be contained solely within the borders of Mexico, but you’re in for a magnificent adventure either way.

Your explorations of the local Mayan ruins will take you to Palenque, where some of the best-preserved buildings and structures can be seen. You may also visit one of the most famous sites in Central America, Chichen Itza, considered to be one of the New Wonders of the World. However, this is not the only ancient civilisation that you will get to know during your Mexican tour. In destinations such as Cholula and Teotitlan del Valle you will learn about the Aztecs and meet people from the Zapotec community, watching the latter as they create beautiful masterpieces from pottery and textiles.

A cycling tour of Mexico will take you on a journey that shows off the diverse landscapes of the country. You will travel through lively villages, protected biosphere reserves and on to the popular coastal resort of Cancun, discovering how the environment here ranges from lush jungles to bustling beaches which attract tourists from all over the world.

If you choose to visit Mexico around the end of October/beginning of November, you might get the chance to experience one of the country’s most vociferous celebrations. The Day of the Dead festival takes place on and around the 2nd of November and is a time where Mexicans celebrate the lives of their dead relatives by visiting their graves and adorning them with food and flowers. The holiday features vibrant parades, fancy dress and many local delicacies made just for this occasion.

One of the most popular cruise ports in the world, Cozumel, is also part of Mexico. The small island lies off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula and attracts thousands of cruisers every year thanks to its beaches, shopping and fantastic excursion activities.
