Monaco

Enviably situated in an unparalleled area close to the southern coast of France and the Italian Riviera, Monaco offers an exclusive haven for some of the richest and most famous people in the world. With a stunning harbour, scenery that will take your breath away, dazzling casinos and a series of beautifully ornate hotels – this is a country unlike any other.

It is important to note that, despite its small size, Monaco is an independent nation and therefore not part of France. Covering a minute area of just two square kilometres, Monaco may be the second smallest country on earth, but you will be amazed by just how much there is to see and do.

You may be familiar with the region of Monte Carlo, which is often mistaken for being the capital of Monaco. This is where you will find many of the nation’s popular landmarks including the stunning Grand Casino, where you can try your luck at a series of traditional games while also rubbing shoulders with the worlds rich and famous. There is a strictly-implemented formal dress code, but it is well worth admiring even if you do not intend to gamble.

If shopping is your thing and you are seeking a spot of retail therapy, Monaco is a perfect destination to visit. Shopping malls offer every designer label you can think of and while it may not be an ideal option for a budget excursion, you will be able to find the latest fashion trends and chic attire.

Of course, no mention of Monte Carlo would be complete without talking about the world-renowned Formula One Grand Prix race, which is held in May within the region every year. Rather than taking place on a separate circuit, the urbanised streets are transformed to create a spectacle that attracts thousands of visitors – all coming in the hope of being able to catch a glimpse of the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and many more.

While many come to Monaco in search of glitz and glamour, there are also many historical landmarks that are well worth visiting. You can head to the pedestrianised area of Monaco-Ville – a medieval region that is home to a number of significant landmarks including a 19th-century cathedral and Palais Princier (Prince’s Palace). Here, a climb to the top will offer a chance to admire spectacular panoramic views over the harbour.

Whether you want to witness the Monte Carlo Grand Prix for yourself or experience the unique grandeur that only Monaco can offer, our dedicated agents at TravelQuest can help create the perfect cruise or land-based holiday for you.
