Poland is a country that offers plenty of variety, with bustling cities, a warm coastline, beautiful countryside and poignant historical landmarks. One destination you may be familiar with is Krakow, which is Poland’s second-largest city. Incorporated in 1978, the city’s Old Town was one of the first areas of its kind to gain UNESCO World Heritage status. As an old royal capital, it is home to many precious architectural monuments including Wawel Castle and St. Florian’s Gate – both of which can be admired while walking the distance of Royal Way. On the hour, be sure to listen out for the Hejnal Mariacki (Trumpet Signal), which is sounded from the tower of St Mary Church.

No overview of Poland would be complete without providing a humbling insight into one of the most devastating landmarks in recent times. To visit the cluster of concentration camps that make up Auschwitz is deemed by many as a life-changing experience that needs to be seen to be able to fully comprehend the suffering of the holocaust.
