After being granted independence from Great Britain in 1955, Singapore briefly joined the Malaysian Federation in 1963. However, two years later, it was expelled and remains the only nation in the history of the modern world to gain independence against the will of its people. The Marina Bay, which cost $773 million to build, is home to an eclectic display of over 250,000 rare plants.
