Having only gained independence from French rule in 1953, Laos is a relatively new country in south-east Asia. It is characterised by man-made and natural beauty in the form of fantastic temples, wonderful panoramas and serene waterfalls.
Your journey through the country may be via a Mekong river cruise, on a trip combined with other countries in the region, or you may find yourself cycling along the remote back roads. Either way, you are sure to fall in love with the people and culture of this fascinating destination.
Specific places of interest include the glorious temple of Wat Xieng Thong, complete with its ornamental gardens and former royal residences. You could also find yourself exploring the Pak Ou Caves, which are filled with various Buddha statues, or interacting with the friendly locals in the village of Tai Dang. Elephant spotting and chances to sample the delicious cuisine will also find their way onto your itinerary as you journey through Laos.
