The beautiful islands of Antigua and Barbuda are dream destinations because of their emerald seas and white sandy beaches that resemble paradise. You may wish to relax in secluded bays, soak up the sun and feel the warm breeze or you may crave some adventure and exciting activities – in which case, read on.
If you’re a serious thrill-seeker then the zip line and treetop course will seriously appeal to you. Here you can zoom along 12 zip lines, climb across 14 challenging elements – including walkways and bridges – and catch a well-earned break in the magnificent tree house.
If you’re afraid of heights, you may wish to miss this one out. The suspension bridges stretch out high over deep gorges and the zip lines range from 52 to 328 feet long. This means you’ll have plenty of time to view the stunning flora and fauna around you as you glide along.
If you wish to see Antigua’s wildlife, pop by Stingray City.Hop on a short boat ride and speak to the guides who know everything and anything about stingrays; they’ll be able to answer any questions you could possibly think of.
Once you arrive, you’ll soon find yourself surrounded by stingrays, but there’s no need to panic as they’re extremely friendly. You can choose whether you want to snorkel beside them, feed them or just let them swim around you. Whatever you decide, you’re sure to have a great time.
What used to be St. John’s Courthouse is now the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, founded in 1985. Its aim is to explain the history and culture of the two islands through its large collection of artefacts collated over the past hundred years.
You’ll learn plenty about the island’s geological, political and archaeological history through ceramics, photographs and remains of other culturally important objects. It’s a fascinating museum in which you’ll feel as though you’ve taken a step back in time.
Are mangoes your favourite fruit? They’re definitely the local’s favourite and have their very own festival. The Mango Festival occurs once a year for two days in July, in the Botanical Garden. When wandering through, you’ll be overwhelmed by the wide selection of this juicy fruit showcased in the stalls.
You may struggle to fit a mango tree in your suitcase, so a mango-made product (such as a scented candle or soap) may make a better souvenir. There will also be homemade pastries, smoothies and ice-creams that are perfect if you have a sweet tooth.
For a break from your sunbed and to get your legs moving, there are plenty of hiking and cycling trails around the island. Whether you choose to stroll down the coast, bike up and down hills or step right in the depths of the rainforest, you’re guaranteed to enjoy it.
One of the most popular trails is the Half Moon Cay walking route that stretches along the coast. This six-mile-long trip is relatively easy with beautiful, scenic views of both the Pacific coast and surrounding greenery.
You can also choose to hire a bike and explore the breathtaking Falmouth Harbour and Shirley Heights, but complete this route in the morning or evening as you’ll get a jaw-dropping view of the sunrise or sunset.
